Social networking is about people using technology to come together to communicate and collaborate with each other in order to share information and create communities of like-minded people with common interests and passions.
People have always networked socially. However, new technologies and the online environment are helping to connect people from a far wider base. Online, people are creating vastly distributed networks across all borders, that is geographical, political, economic, social and cultural.
I'm not a prolific user of social media (technology behind social networking), but when I examined my usage, the various platforms I'm signed on to and associated tools I use day-to-day, quite surprised me.

I use these tools, but haven't taken a comprehensive approach or adopted an attitude of complete acceptance. There still exists a certain tension with many of the tools. Commitment and accountability also play roles as pain points, so too information noise and efficient filtering. I'm hoping INF206 will balance my view, challenge me to take these tools further and provide tips on managing the pain points.
